Private SAT® Tutoring

Most students we work with already know the material. They have studied, taken practice tests, and learned the standard strategies, but their score keeps settling in the same range.

The problem is that students rarely squeeze enough out of the material. They settle for methods that work but are too slow, then drill through thousands of questions without ever stopping to ask, “Is there a better way?”

HOW LONG IT TAKES

Your timeline

Anywhere from a few focused lessons to a few years of comprehensive prep, depending on your starting score, your target, and your timeline.

HOW LESSONS WORK

One thing at a time

We don’t race through topics. We stay on one problem until it stops costing you points, then move on.

WHO IT IS FOR

Any starting score

Rebuilding the basics or hunting the last fifty points, the work gets built around you either way.

Meet Will, your SAT tutor

Will Hobden has taught the SAT for more than 13 years and spent more than 10,000 hours tutoring students one-on-one.

He is obsessed with understanding how each student thinks, combining psychology, problem solving, and test strategy to find the approach that works best for them.

Will does not assume that a correct answer means the method is good enough. He presses students to justify each step, gives them harder versions, and finds the point where their understanding begins to fail.

How the Work Runs

We start by identifying the ideas and habits holding your score back. Then we work on them for as long as they need and keep testing them until they hold up under pressure.

FIRST CALL

30 MINUTES, FREE

Send a recent score report or practice test before your call with Will. He’ll then explain what he notices, where he would begin, and whether private tutoring makes sense.

WEEK ONE

A FULL PRACTICE TEST

You sit a complete test under timed conditions. Will analyzes your work and assesses your understanding of key concepts to find the easiest opportunities for score growth.

LESSONS

FIX ONE PATTERN

We work on one idea at a time, whether it takes thirty minutes or several lessons. We do not let go until the idea has stuck and you can use it quickly and reliably in unfamiliar forms.

IN BETWEEN

Constant support

Will is reachable during working hours between lessons. If you need a quick tip or refresher, send him a message and he’ll do his best to help when you need it most.

BEFORE THE TEST

REHEARSE, DON’T CRAM

Near the test, the focus shifts from learning more to performing well. We reinforce the methods, pacing, and decisions most likely to improve your score, rather than filling the final sessions with difficult questions and new rules that are unlikely to stick.

"We do not stop when a student gets the answer right. We stop when the method is fast, reliable, and hard to break."

SAT Tutor, Will Hobden

Students we worked with attend leading international schools and universities in Switzerland, Europe, the UK and the US.

A group course covers the syllabus, which works when the syllabus is the problem. What it cannot do is watch how you think. If the issue is your pacing, how you read a question, or the moment you abandon a good method, the teacher may not catch it, or may not have time to address it properly when there are ten or twenty other students in the room.

Once you reach the mid-1400s, generic advice and mediocre methods are unlikely to move your score. At that stage, you need a teacher who, from the first session, can identify exactly what is holding you back and show you what to do next.

When time is limited, you need to know exactly where to spend it. We study your recent tests, identify the changes most likely to move your score, and build the remaining work around them.

WHEN PRIVATE TUITION MAKES SENSE

What changed for our students

These students started at different scores, worked on different problems and needed different amounts of time. The numbers show the result. Their own words explain the rest.

Start with a free 30-minute call

Send your latest score report or a full practice test a day or two beforehand. Will reviews it first, so the half hour is spent on you rather than background questions: what is holding your score back, what he would change first, and whether private tutoring is likely to help.

There is no pressure to book. If Will believes you’ll benefit more from a group course, more independent practice, or a later test date, he’ll tell you.

WHAT YOU WILL KNOW AFTER THE CALL

1

YOUR CURRENT POSITION

Which section, question type, or habit is most likely holding your score back.

2

THE FIRST PRIORITY

One concrete thing to change this week, before adding more lessons or another practice test.

3

A REALISTIC PLAN

Roughly how many lessons would help, how they would fit around your test date, and what the total cost would be.
